There are a number of festivals in the local area, which take place every year.  The Hay Literay Festival takes place in May.  Hay also has a winter festival.  Builth Wells has the Royal Welsh Show, which takes place in July.  There are also numorous other events  which take place in the Builth Wells showground, including antique shows, dog shows, etc.   The Victorian town of Llandrindod Wells has its Victorian Festival every year, when people in the town dress up in Victorian costume, Victorian street entertainment takes place in town and it all culminates in a wonderful torch lit procession to the lake, where there is a fantastic fireworks display.  The market town of Brecon, some thrity miles distant over beautiful country roads, has its yearly Jazz  festival.  Not so far away, Presteigne has its yearly music festival.

The local countryside is idealy suited for walkers, birdwatchers, horse riders and cyclists, who enjoy the challenge of cycling in hill country.  Horse riding lessons can be arranged with the stables at Bryngwyn Riding School, some five miles distant.
