Local Festivals
There are a number of festivals in the local area, which take place every year. The Hay Literay Festival takes place in May. Hay also has a winter festival. Builth Wells has the Royal Welsh Show, which takes place in July. There are also numerous other events which take place in the Builth Wells showground, including antique shows and dog shows. The Victorian town of Llandrindod Wells has its Victorian Festival every year, when people in the town dress up in Victorian costume, Victorian street entertainment takes place in town and it all culminates in a wonderful torch lit procession to the lake, where there is a fantastic fireworks display. The market town of Brecon, some thrity miles distant over beautiful country roads, has its yearly Jazz festival. Not so far away, Presteigne has its yearly music festival. Hergest roft gardens often put on open air plays and the gardens themselves as well as the surrounding parkland is a wonderful place for walks! This is ideal birdwatching country, with many varieties of rare birds.
Walking amidst the wild hills is a wonderful experience, with few people but many sheep in sight. Bring wellington boots, or good walking shoes, for this year round experience!
However, much nearer home, in fact in it, one of the owners of The Yat, Krystyna Zaremba is both an Artist and an Art Therapist and private art lessons can be arranged for our guests. She is now experimenting with icon writing, using traditional techniques.
