Eco-friendly

The Yat is an eco-friendly guest house.  Recently we had photovoltaic panels fitted for producing electricity.  We also have solar panels to heat our hot water in the summer.  We planted 1,000 trees in 1989 and these have grown tall and help house a great deal of wild life.  Fallen trees, or wood from thinned trees is used in our wood burners when the weather is cold and damp. We use our own wood for our log fires.  At present we have a sceptic tank dealing with household waste but shortly we will be fitting a reed bed to deal with all our waste.  Not only will it deal with our waste and clean it as it de cends into the stream but it will also produce a by product, reeds!  We try only to use organic locally grown food wherever possible and do have our own garden where we are trying out permacaluture techniques.  We also have an orchard and do use our own apples in season.  We hope shortly to have our own chickens and so a supply of our own eggs.  We welcome cyclists and walkers at The Yat.
